Oneplus 6T McLaren Edition- Unboxing

Everything you need from a smart phone
The 6T gives you everything you need from a top flight phone in 2018. Sure, its display is 'only' 1080p+, but it's as bright and garish as you want it to be (I prefer natural, so I tune it down to DC3 in the settings). Higher resolution displays are wasted on my eyes on a 6.4" screen, so I'll take the consequential improvement in battery life.

OnePlus' implementation of Android 9 is superb and as fast as any phone I've tried. Out of the box it offers quite a few upgrades over standard Pie, but if you're a purist like me, you can configure it with launcher, wallpapers and settings to make it (almost) pure Google Pie on a Pixel. Fast charging works very well; the phone reaches 52% from zero in 30 minutes and the fast charger is included (unlike with some other, very expensive alternatives).

My single gripe is the in-display fingerprint reader. At this point of evolution, it's purely a gimmick. It's slower than a 'physical' reader and as someone who prefers the reader to be in its natural position for one handed use, on the back, I consider this a backward step.

I was seriously considering an iPhone Xs Max when I bought this, but other than a better camera, I could not justify the additional £720 I'd have had to pay to get the equivalent features. One could buy a very nice system camera for that. Resale value come upgrade time will claw a lot of that disparity back, but still.

I bought the 8GB model solely to get the midnight black finish, but I suppose it might give the phone some longer usable life.

This is a great phone (no caveat regarding relative cost), it's just great.
